Jointly offered by the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA) and Media Technology and Publishing Center (MTPC), this course provides an integrated introduction to the theories, cultures, and practical techniques of digital media, designed to prepare students for advanced study and opportunities in the Extended Major Program in DMCA. Through a balanced focus on both conceptual and technical skills, students will explore the aesthetics, theory, and practice of digital photography, cinematography, content creation, visual storytelling, media design, interactive and immersive media, and generative arts.
Students will gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant software and hardware, including picture editing, digital effects, motion capture, and VR applications. Guest speakers and curators from leading institutions enrich the learning experience with current practices and insights.
Teaching Mode
This course utilizes a hybrid learning model that combines lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and critiques, covering topics such as digital graphic editing, animation, data visualization, AI-generated art, and virtual production.
Lastly, there will be an exhibition highlighting students' learning journey at the end of the semester.
Target Students
This course for students enrolled in the Extended Major Program in DMCA, totaling an approximately 20 students.
