Description
This two-part installation consists of a calligraphic work in the front and five wood panels employing transfer printing techniques in the background. The calligraphic component incorporates AI-generated images to examine how contemporary standards of "beautiful calligraphy" have diverged from traditional script forms.
The bold characters in the front represent calligraphy that has been digitally enhanced or filtered through modern aesthetic preferences, exemplifying today's celebration of "innovation" in the art form. Particularly noteworthy is the work from Xu Bing's English Calligraphy in the upper left corner, it means "How we make art today," which epitomizes groundbreaking creative approaches. Yet this drive us to reflect: in our relentless pursuit of creativity and innovation, are we neglecting the cultural foundations of our artistic traditions?
Viewers are invited to pick up the provided magnifying glass and look through the small apertures in the calligraphic fabric. There, they will discover traditional楷書 script by 顏真卿imprinted on the wood panels. It represents a powerful reminder that while we embrace innovation, we must not discard the profound legacy of classical calligraphy. This work challenges us to reconsider the balance between tradition and modernity in contemporary art practice.
